Many instructors put information into their syllabus regarding academic integrity. This is important for both reminding and informing students of your and the University's policies for the course. The Office of Student Conduct urges professors to put text into their syllabi regarding academic integrity and to discuss this with students the first day of class and with reminders throughout the semester, especially before big assignments. The Office offers sample text for instructors to use:

This Code sets standards for academic integrity at Maryland for all undergraduate and graduate students. As a student, you are responsible for upholding these standards for this course. It is very important for you to be aware of the consequences of cheating, fabrication, facilitation, plagiarism, and self-plagiarism.
